Having been at home more recently, I’ve been spending quite a lot of time watching the coverage of the shenanigans in the UK that may or may not result in the UK leaving the EU. (Read my previous blog on the subject A political post)
It feels never ending. I’m actually mortified to be British. Parliament resembles a pantomime. But there’s no hero or goodie. Where is the Buttons from Cinderella? Priti Patel scares the bejaysus out of me so is definitely the wicked queen of immigration. I just don’t see why European citizens who have been living in the UK for years now have to apply for settled status. How insulting.
Boris Johnson plays the fool, but he is not. I don’t trust him. The only time I have ever agreed with Donald Trump was when he described Boris Johnson as “Britain Trump.” Jacob Rees Mogg also frightens the bejaysus out of me. I wouldn’t trust him as far as I could spit. I’m a lady, so I don’t spit but you know what I mean. I just don’t see there being a happy ending. I know that life us not a fairytale, but I can’t help but feel that Brexit is like being stuck on an out of control train that is speeding ever closer to the end of the tracks beside a very high cliff.
I know that the uncertainty is harming the economy, but I don’t think leaving the EU, the customs union and trading with the other EU countries is going to be good for the economy either. The pound is up and down like a yoyo at the moment. Only time will tell how badly it nosedives. Not that any of the government will be effected. They’re all privately wealthy and haven’t the first clue what it is like to live in the real world. It’s no coincidence that food banks are now a reality in the UK for those in work just as much as those on benefits. That can’t be right. The UK is a wealthy country, the wealth is just not being shared. The government is all about big business and personal profit, they couldn’t care less about the ordinary citizens.
Now, Boris Johnson is suggesting a snap General Election on December 12th. That’s the last thing that anyone needs less than 2 weeks before Christmas!! The only thing us he needs two thirds of MP’s to agree to having an election. At this point in time, I’d say there’s more chance of me waking up a foot taller and four stones lighter than getting the MP’s to agree.
I’m also annoyed at the way Scotland and Wales have had their interests completely disregarded. Neither Theresa May or Boris Johnson have met with Scotland’s First Minister or the First Minister of Wales. The leader of the SNP in Westminster is also regularly ignored. Scotland voted SNP in the majority of the 56 Scottish constituencies. Westminster is quick to claim Scotland’s oil and fishing waters but don’t give a toss about Scotland. Scotland which overwhelmingly voted to remain in the EU.
Theresa May was quick to give The DUP in Northern Ireland money to secure their support, now they are not giving their support. Boris Johnson also removed the whip from Conservative MP’s who voted against the government and currently has a majority in the minus numbers!! It’s pathetic. The UK is being made to be a laughing stock. I shudder to think what will happen next.
